Recycling

The blue cart program is available to all households that are served by the City's waste pick-up program (buildings with no more than 4 units).  Pick-ups take place every other week - there is no specific day scheduled for recycling pick-ups.

If you do not participate in the City's blue cart program, there are a number of drop-off centers for recycling.  The following items can be dropped at any of the City drop-off centers (Nature Museum, Goose Island, etc.):  glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, foil and pie tins, cans (tin or steel), cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, paper bags, office paper, file folders, newspapers and newspaper inserts - please note: do not deposit any plastic bags.

For year round disposal of expired or unused medications, household chemicals, cleaners, solvents, oil-based paints, computers, cell phones and fluorescent light bulbs - take these items to the city's permanent Household Chemicals and Computer Recycling Facility, 1150 N. North Branch (two blocks west of Halsted and just south of Division).

Hours:  Tuesdays (7:00AM - noon), Thursdays (2:00PM - 7:00PM) and the first Saturday of every month (8:00AM - 3:00PM).

Paper, plastic, bottles and cans are also accepted at this location.

Lawn waste and leaves should be left in a separate paper bag outside of the carts.

We accept batteries and cell phones for recycling at 735 West Wrightwood.
